Empowering Communities: NALSA-K Transforms Lives in Taveta Constituency.

In a transformative initiative aimed at fostering sustainable development, NALSA-K, in partnership with Proudly Kenyan and other well-wishers, launched a program in Taveta Constituency to uplift women and youth. The event saw the distribution of essential resources, including sewing machines, water tanks, and business tools, designed to empower local communities and create economic opportunities.
Single mothers were among the primary beneficiaries, receiving 50 sewing machines and enrolling in a three-month tailoring training program. Upon completion, the women will volunteer in public schools for a month, with all necessary materials provided by the Office of the Member of Parliament, Hon. John Bwire. After their volunteer period, they will be equipped to establish their own businesses, fostering self-reliance and financial independence.

“When you assist a woman, you assist the entire community,” said Patience Bwire, NALSA-K’s Taveta representative. “The goal of this program is to ensure these women can support themselves and, in turn, uplift their families and communities.”
In addition to tailoring equipment, single mothers also received 20 blenders, providing them with additional means to generate income. Women’s groups were further supported with key resources such as sufurias, chairs, and even motorbikes to enhance their entrepreneurial ventures.

With Taveta’s growing population, the need for accessible clean water has become more pressing than ever. Thanks to the donation of a water tank by Patience Bwire, chairperson of NALSA-K Taveta, more villagers can now access this vital resource. Solomon Katuta, Chairperson of the Ndilidau Sangu Water Project, highlighted the significance of this development.
“This water project was started in 2003, but over the years, the population has grown, and the need for water has increased,” he noted. “The new tank will ensure that more people, especially those who were previously unconnected, can now access clean water with ease.”

For local women’s groups, the provision of water tanks has opened doors to sustainable agricultural and poultry farming. Philomena Kanini, chairlady of the Mwangaza Mashinani Group, expressed gratitude for the support, stating that the tank will enable them to rear chickens and grow vegetables, which are scarce in the region.
“This tank is a game changer for us. It will help us store water for our poultry and vegetable farming, allowing us to generate income and improve food security in our village,” Kanini said. Her fellow group member, Mary Wanza Nguli, echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the economic opportunities the water project will bring, including plans to purchase a car wash machine to further boost revenue.

Youth empowerment was also a key focus of the initiative. Local football clubs received jerseys and cash prizes to support their sporting activities. In addition, a competitive choir event saw winners receive valuable business tools: the first-place group was awarded a motorbike and Ksh 20,000, while the second-place winners took home two car wash machines, a 3,000-litre water tank, and Ksh 20,000. The third-place group also received a car wash machine, a 3,000-litre water tank, and Ksh 20,000.
By investing in sports and entrepreneurship, NALSA-K is creating avenues for young people to develop their talents and secure sustainable livelihoods.

“Education is what will change the lives of our children and the community in Taveta,” emphasized Patience Bwire. “We are committed to ensuring that the youth have access to opportunities that will set them up for success.”
This initiative represents a significant step in building self-sufficient communities in Taveta Constituency. By equipping women and youth with skills, resources, and financial support, NALSA-K is fostering long-term economic stability and empowerment.
The event concluded with acknowledgments from Patience Bwire Nalsa Taveta Representative, who extended gratitude to the National Chairperson, Madam Electina, and the Coast Chairperson, Ms. Thureya, for their unwavering support. The collaboration with Proudly Kenyan was also praised as a crucial element in the program’s success.
With such impactful initiatives, Taveta’s women and youth are on a path towards brighter futures, proving that empowerment at the grassroots level can truly change lives.
