Our Journey in Brief

Our Journey in Brief
September 5, 2022Elecktina WanyonyiBLOGS BY NALSA

A look at NALSA(K) activities from December 2018 to July 2022

As we look forward to beginning a new five-year term at NALSA-Kenya, we have wrapped up the last five years in a downloadable report. Get a deeper look at what we got up to, from our virtual sessions during the lockdowns to our projects sponsored by Proudly Kenyan. Here is the chair’s address from the report:

Greetings, Hon. Members.

Here we are, five years later, with a lot to look back to and much more (I hope) to look forward to.

It has been said that “If you want to move forward, often look back; otherwise, you will forget where you came from and where you need to go.”

We started our term, and we spent a good portion of the initial period getting to know each other as best as we could, especially seeing that this was the second term of the Association, and we had quite a number of ‘former’ and ‘current’ members.

I look back, and I am happy that a good number of us committed to taking time to ‘improve ourselves’ so as to position ourselves better in supporting our spouses, communities, and each other.

I am grateful to Prof. Njenga J. Munene and Zetech College, and Esther Muchemi of Samchi Group, who joined us in our first meeting and helped us visualize several things.

When Covid visited with us and the world stopped, we worried about each other and got together online to encourage each other even as we continued improving ourselves. We even had a Prayer Night and enjoyed a Family Hangout Evening ‘rocking the new normal.’ Christine Vulimu walked us through encouraging us to “Be your best given the circumstances”, and Shalom Munyiri talked us through parenting intentionally in the era of social media.

But it wasn’t all about us! We also took time to participate in each of the #BeyondZero runs during my term.

Honestly, though, what makes me super proud is our partnership with Proudly Kenyan. Our interaction started after Covid when life had kind of come to a standstill. In the span of 11 months, the members have managed to get several things done.

I hope those who will come after us in the next five years will support each other and continue to impact their communities.

I will wrap up with a Peruvian proverb: ‘Little by little, one walks far.’ The Second Term has brought us this far; may our ‘Unity in Diversity’ see us walking even farther in the new term and beyond.

I am proud and humbled to have served as your Chair this last term. May God bless and keep each one of you and NALSA (K).
