OPINION ARTICLE: Exploring the Non-partisan, Apolitical, and Multicultural Concept.

OPINION ARTICLE: Exploring the Non-partisan, Apolitical, and Multicultural Concept.
June 20, 2023Brian AnyanzwaNalsaBlog

Introduction:

The world today is more diverse and politically charged than ever before. Therefore, the importance of a non-partisan, apolitical, and multicultural approach in an organisation cannot be over-emphasized. This article explores why adopting such an approach is essential and how it fosters inclusivity, integrity, and effective collaboration.

  1. Promoting Inclusivity and Diversity.

A non-partisan, apolitical, and multicultural approach creates an environment that embraces diversity and inclusivity. Political neutrality ensures that despite existential political differences inadvertently derived from our spouses political affiliation, we feel welcome and valued.

This approach encourages participation from all, fostering a broader range of perspectives and ideas. Moreover, by embracing multiculturalism, we celebrate different cultures, traditions, and beliefs, nurturing an atmosphere where every voice is heard and respected.

2. Preserving Neutrality and Integrity:

A non-partisan and apolitical stance helps organisations maintain their integrity and shun favouritism or bias towards specific political parties or ideologies. This neutrality is crucial in building trust among stakeholders, including employees, clients, and the public. It ensures that the decisions, actions, and initiatives are merit-based, fair, and in our best interests rather than influenced by political considerations. Such integrity strengthens our reputation, enhances credibility, and promotes transparency.

Bias against neutrality leaves an egg on the face as integrity becomes questionable.

3. Facilitating Effective Collaboration:

A non-partisan, apolitical, and multicultural approach cultivates an environment conducive to effective collaboration focusing on shared values rather than our political differences. Organisations can foster cooperation among members from diverse backgrounds.

This collaborative spirit enables us to work together towards common objectives, pooling skills, knowledge, and experiences to achieve meaningful outcomes for our association. It encourages us to dialogue and exchange ideas without the barriers often associated with political affiliations. The spirit is evident when members from the Nairobi chapter of NALSA-Kenya customarily grace colleagues’ events. Despite different political parties sponsoring our spouses in the National Assembly, a collaborative spirit is always evident. Another example is Mwala ,where eight members joined the host in solidarity with our apolitical, non-partisan nature.

The collaboration will be more evident as some of the projects launched cover similar SDGs. It creates room for future benchmarking from some of the success stories.

4. Safeguarding Organisational Mission and Focus :

Adopting a non-partisan, apolitical approach ensures focus on the core mission, objectives, and activities. By avoiding entanglement in political disputes or alignment with specific political agendas, we can prioritise our purpose and devote resources to their intended goals.

The significance is that it safeguards our autonomy, independence, and ability to carry out work without undue external influence, whether from our spouses or other powers.

NALSA-Kenya has six objectives. NALSA-Kenya members are drawn from all parts of Kenya and stand for unity in diversity. Adopting a non-partisan and apolitical approach is crucial to safeguarding the objectives, mission and focus. Actions speak louder in various events members from the Nairobi chapter continue to show up for their colleagues during project launches.

Conclusion:

A non-partisan, apolitical, and multicultural approach is not merely a superficial stance but a strategic choice that promotes inclusivity, integrity, effective collaboration, and focus.

By NALSA-Kenya embracing apolitical nature, neutrality and different cultures, we can build a strong foundation for success, respect, and positive impact.

In a complex and polarised world, these principles make us better equipped to navigate challenges, gain stakeholder trust, and make meaningful contributions to society and communities.

Membership to NALSA_Kenya is voluntary for spouses of our National Assembly members. It is an opportunity to interact and empower our respective communities free from the shackles of political affiliations and cultural boundaries. The slogan is the foundation on which NALSA-Kenya thrives.
