Empowering Msambweni Women: A Journey Toward Economic Independence and Community Growth
In a significant show of support for women’s empowerment in Mswambeni Constituency, the First Lady, Jumwa Bader, representing NALSA Kenya, facilitated the donation of crucial resources to several local groups. “I was inspired by the fact that many women in coastal regions, especially Muslim women, are often looked down upon because of the religion and lack of education,” Jumwa Bader explained, referring to her motivation for initiating and supporting the donations. These donations aim to provide women with the necessary tools to create sustainable livelihoods and enhance their capacity for development.
One of the organizations benefiting from the donations was Active Mind CBO, a social organization established in 2023. The group received cyber equipment, including monitors, CPUs and desks, which will enable them to provide digital literacy training and bridge the technology gap within the community. This is an important milestone for the organization in fulfilling its mission to empower and uplift the local population.
The Siaya Women Development Group, another recipient, also benefitted from this initiative. The group, which was established under a welfare umbrella launched in 2016, focuses on improving the economic status and well-being of women. During the donation event, Chairlady Vallary Ngila expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the items, which included chairs and other equipment.
“As the Chairlady, I am happy and grateful,” Vallary said. She further shared the group’s plans to hire out the donated items as a means of generating income, adding, “This will boost our account and enable us to sustain our operations.” Vallary also took the opportunity to thank Proudly Kenyan for their essential support, which made these donations possible.
The First Lady, Jumwa Bader, while representing NALSA Kenya, also expressed her commitment to ensuring the long-term success of these initiatives. “I plan to visit the women regularly to monitor their progress and assist them with training opportunities,” Jumwa Bader stated. Her involvement serves as a reminder of the collaborative efforts of NALSA Kenya and Proudly Kenyan, who continue to work towards empowering women in the region.

It serves as a powerful example of how shared resources can lead to lasting impact, providing hope and opportunities for future generations.
