Empowering Jomvu Women: NALSA-K and PROUDLY KENYAN’s Initiative
On November 26th, Mrs. Thureya Abdi, NALSA-K’s representative for Jomvu Constituency, spearheaded a transformative event designed to uplift women and drive community growth. This initiative, a partnership between NALSA-K and PROUDLY KENYAN, combines skills training, cooperative business models, and mentorship to create lasting impact for the women of Jomvu.
At the core of this program is market-driven skills development. Women are equipped with practical business skills to foster self-reliance and economic growth in their communities.
Jessica Mwanyule, a member of the Big Ten CBO Group, shared her excitement: “From the training on business, we gained knowledge, and now we can put up our own businesses.”
A standout feature of this initiative is its cooperative model, which encourages women to pool resources and reinvest their earnings locally. This approach fosters community solidarity and shared prosperity. Zarina Rashid, another member of the Big Ten CBO Group, shared her success story: “We have expanded our water vending business, and we get so many customers. The chama is progressing so well.”
Mrs. Abdi emphasized the long-term vision of the program: “We are also planning to collaborate with other organizations to set up leadership programs to allow women to benefit even further.” This forward-thinking approach ensures women are not only economically empowered but also poised to take on leadership roles in their communities.
Mentorship is another cornerstone of the initiative, creating a network where experienced women guide aspiring entrepreneurs. This system of peer support helps overcome challenges, share best practices, and inspire growth.
Mrs. Nassim Nassir, the mother of the Mombasa County Governor, commended the initiative, saying: “I am so happy for my daughter Thureya for championing this initiative. Supporting our women is vital to their success and the community’s future.”
This partnership between NALSA-K and PROUDLY KENYAN highlights the power of collaboration in driving change. By providing tools, resources, and support, the program is setting the stage for a brighter future for Jomvu’s women.
As the initiative unfolds, its impact is evident in the growing economic independence, strengthened community ties, and the rise of local leaders among Jomvu’s women.
