In a bid to improve the learning environment and ensure good hygiene of learners at Kisii Special School in Kitutu Chache South Constituency, the National Assembly Lady Spouses Association of Kenya (NALSA-K) constructed a toilet block for the learners that was launched on 26th January 2024. The toilet construction is among the Proudly Kenya organisation sponsored projects that are being implemented by NALSA-K across the Country and aims to provide accessible and appropriate toilet facilities for the special needs children at the school. .
The school plays a crucial role by enrolling and offering education training to children that are abled differently in the area. Despite this, lack of suitable toilet facilities posed challenges to both the students and teachers at the school. The newly launched project seeks to address this issue, recognizing the profound impact that improved facilities can have on the learning environment and the overall health and well-being of the students.
It is estimated the project will benefit a total 125 special needs students in the school.

According to the Proudly-Kenyan Programme Manager Stella Wangari, accessibility to appropriate toilet facilities is a fundamental right for every child.
“The project aligns with Proudly Kenyan’s commitment to promoting exclusivity and equal opportunities”, stated Wangare.
NALSA-K area representative Mrs. Alice Kibagendi, appreciated working with Proudly Kenyan stating that the bi-partisan and apolitical status of the Association makes it efficient in project implementation.

While the physical facilities are a crucial aspect of the project, the broader impact extends to the social and emotional well-being of students. Improved facilities contribute to a sense of dignity, self-worth, and equality, fostering an environment where every child can flourish.
The project is anticipated to have an enormous positive impact on the mental health of the students at Kisii Special School and for Kitutu Chache constituents in general.
