A NEW CHAPTER UNFOLDS AS NALSA-K LAUNCHES A MODERN CLASSROOM BLOCK IN SAMBURU

A NEW CHAPTER UNFOLDS AS NALSA-K LAUNCHES A MODERN CLASSROOM BLOCK IN SAMBURU

Sarara Primary School in Sordo area, deep in the heart of Samburu  County, today stands as a testament to the power of collective effort and the unwavering spirit of women empowerment after NALSA-Kenya launched a modern classroom block.

A modern classroom block constructed by NALSA-Kenya and Proudly Kenyan collaboration.

In a region where early marriages have long cast shadows on the educational aspirations of young girls, the group of determined lady spouses in Kenya defied the odds and chose to invest in education for the pastoral community.

The  classroom launch marks a significant milestone in the education journey for learners in Wamba area. The funds generated and pooled by the lady spouses have not only constructed a physical structure but have also laid the foundation for a brighter future. This endeavor is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about breaking the chains of early marriages and offering the gift of education to the young minds.

Mary Lekumontare, the area NALSA-K  representative, expressed the profound impact of the project, saying, “ NALSA- K has done what is not possible in Samburu. This classroom will not only benefit the current and future generation of our children, future generations too.”

Samburu East Member of Parliament, Hon. Lekumontare Jackson Lentoi, highlighted that the initial plan was to renovate an old, dilapidated classroom. However, he noted, with the infusion of support from NALSA-K, the vision expanded.

Hon Lekumontare revealed that plans are underway to buy school uniforms for the learners once the school population reaches 100.

The Sarara Primary school headteacher Mr.Pius Alison Lenaingiswa, gave a remarkable highlight on the progress of the school, stating.

“ We ended the year 2023 with 15 pupils, and enrollment improved to 64 in a fortnight after the classroom construction. In a region where such advancements are rare, the classroom boasts tiled floors and electricity, transforming the educational landscape in Wamba area, Samburu County.

Josephat Ekuru, the local Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Curriculum Support Representative stated that plans are underway to post more teachers to the school now that classrooms are in place.

The Proudly Kenyan Programme Manager Stella Wangare, shed light on the significance of the project, stating that the project was important because education is a right.

“We take Samburu children as ours and therefore decided to offer them a foundation with which to build on.” She stated.

As the sun sets over the vast plains of Samburu, the newly constructed classroom stands as a beacon of hope. It symbolizes more than just an educational facility; it embodies the transformation of a community, the determination of women, and the promise of a brighter future for Samburu children. With each desk, each tile, and each spark of electricity, a new chapter in education unfolds, promising empowerment, equality, and a path to a better tomorrow.
