Modern Kitchen Brings Hope to Kamayanki Dispensary

A modern kitchen facility was launched on 9th November at Kamanyaki Dispensary in Tharaka Nithi by the First Lady, Angelica Gitonga, marking a significant milestone in healthcare service delivery. The initiative, supported by NALSA and Proudly Kenyan, aims to enhance the well-being of patients and staff, ensuring access to fresh, nutritious meals.
Derrick Mbae, the manager of Kamanyaki Dispensary, expressed optimism about the facility’s impact. “Patients will now get fresh food daily, which is vital for their recovery,” he said. The initiative has already improved patients’ lives, with many thrilled about the availability of warm meals, particularly porridge.
The kitchen has also brought relief to hospital staff, who can now prepare meals on-site, saving time previously spent leaving the dispensary during lunch breaks. This newfound convenience allows them to focus more on patient care, boosting productivity and morale.

“This kitchen will save time and let us dedicate more attention to patients,” noted Stephen Nyaga a staff member.
The facility prioritises hygiene, ensuring clean, safe food for all. “With the kitchen, the hygiene of the food is guaranteed,” said Elizabeth Gatura, a cook at the health centre. Additionally, it will promote balanced diets, a crucial aspect of patient recovery and well-being.
The project has been lauded for its broader social benefits. “This modern kitchen brings dignity to our people,” said John Ndebe, a representative of Proudly Kenyan, underscoring how such initiatives symbolize care and respect for the community.
The First Lady revealed her motivation for the project, stating, “What inspired me to do this project is to uplift the livelihoods of these people.” Her dedication has sparked hope among the residents, who are grateful for this transformative contribution.
During the launch, the community celebrated the milestone with joy and extended heartfelt thanks to NALSA and Proudly Kenyan for their pivotal role in realizing the project.

The Kamanyaki Dispensary’s kitchen is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery, offering fresh, hygienic, and nutritious meals to patients and staff. This initiative not only improves daily operations but also fosters a sense of dignity and care within the community.
As the kitchen begins its operations, the people of Tharaka Nithi look forward to a future where healthcare services are complemented by such meaningful infrastructure, ensuring better health outcomes for all.
