CELEBRATIONS AS THE OGIEK’S ONLY PRIMARY SCHOOL LAUNCHES A WATER AND SANITATION PROJECT

The Ogiek community in Kuresoi South is a marginalised community living in Kenya with an estimated population of not more than 1000 people.
Three Nalsa-Kenya representatives joined hands with host Felsiter Tonui as she celebrated the opening of an ablution block and borehole dug after interventions from ProudlyKenyan. January 9th, 2024 is a revered day for the Ogiek and to us marks the last of the 21 projects conducted in phase two.

The idea for the project at Ogiek Sotiki Primary School is borne out of the educational background of the Kuresoi South Representative, Mrs. Tonui who doubles up as the headteacher of Mema School. In her concluding remarks the area representative expounded as to how NALSA-K on top of offering a supportive role to their spouses in Parliament, the association additionally seeks partnerships and linkages with organisations having a similar mandate as ours i.e Proudly Kenyan.
Without water and an ablution block, the school can not function as stated by the Head Teacher of the school, Mr.Ezekiel Sigei, who leads 18 teachers and 358 pupils including the junior secondary section. The school, founded in 1998, began operations with three teachers serving the whole school.

Mrs. Florence Arama (Nakuru Town West) took to the podium to explain to the gathering why NALSA-K is a non-partisan partisan and diverse association of lady spouses of Kenyan Parliamentarians. Flanking Mrs. Arama during her speech were more representatives from the larger Rift Valley caucus, Stella Mutahi (Kuresoi North) and Rose Kamuren (Baringo South), all beneficiaries from phase two projects save for the former.
ProudlyKenyan’s Project Manager, Stella Wangari highlighted that phase two saw the completion of 21 projects in 21 constituencies across the country. The organisation was also behind the implementation of 16 projects in 15 constituencies between 2021-2022.

With expected restoration of the Ogiek Sotiki students self esteem via an modern ablution block and a water borehole. Phase two is done and dusted bringing to a total 36 constituencies that have benefited from NALSA-K’s partnership and linkage with ProudlyKenyan-a social and community outreach organisation.
