SECURING FUTURE GENERATIONS THROUGH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES.

After the November 26th, 2021 launch, Kaloleni constituency has recently seen a beehive of activity in fulfilling the ongoing collaboration between Proudly Kenyan and NALSA(K) members through their respective constituencies. The next phase involved;
i) Issuance of sanitary towels to a total of eighteen schools (primary and secondary)
ii) Delivery of five water bowsers to different locations and;
iii) Mentorship programme for the boys in Tsangatsini and Miyani Secondary Schools.
Sanitary Towels
So far, a total of 3895 girls in 15 primary schools and four secondary schools have benefitted from these donations. The initiative is essential as the girls’ economic background often makes it difficult for their parents to afford the sanitary towels regularly—the donation cushions costs for the girls and their families.Keeping our girls in school at all times fulfils the empowerment objective of NALSA(K).
This project helps ensure the girls can continue their education uninterrupted. Often, girls will stay home when they have their periods due to not having pads, thus missing out on classes. Ensuring the girls attend school is a vital part of the project: considering the county has one of the highest teen motherhood rates in the country (22 percent), we can not afford any more of them missing school.In addition to the donation of sanitary towels, there was a follow-up visit to Kizurini Special School. Additional items donated to the school include masks, water, foodstuff, diapers and wheelchairs.

Water Bowsers
Kaloleni is currently experiencing a severe drought. Through its representative, Mrs Thelma Katana, NALSA(K) has delivered five water bowsers so far to various locations to dispatch the much-needed resource and offer some form of relief the residents. The areas include Kayafungo, Kagombani, Milalani, and Kizurini Special School. The United Nations Social Development goal number six is to improve water and sanitation worldwide by 2030. In an interview with a reporter, Kilifi Water executive Kiringi Mwachitu said a contractor was on site at the Mwavumbo pump station. He said there is adequate infrastructure to supply water to most villages in Kaloleni. The Kaloleni water problem is a growing concern, and the residents will welcome a permanent solution to the problem.

Conclusion
Moving on, we look forward to seeing what is coming up in the other constituencies across the country.
